R/C Flying Colors Paint System R/C Flying Colors paint is a custom matched Professional grade polyurethane 2-part paint. Utilizing the PPG Concept Urethane, each color has been faithfully blended for a color match for Monokote or Ultracote. We can even match existing paint or other coverings. Just supply us with a 4" sq. piece to use to match. There is NO CHARGE for this custom service! Many top pilots, including those who fly in the prestigious TOC in Las Vegas, NV use our paints. Chip Hyde and Bill Hempel have been using it for quite some time, with excellent results as you can see from their beautiful models.
The R/C Flying Colors Paint System is a complete system that will ensure a wonderful experience painting a model, especially for the first-time user! We carry everything you need, from primer to clear coat! We can even provide an inexpensive "spray can" type sprayer with which you can apply the paint without using an expensive air spray system. Keep in mind that the spray quality will be much less than that of an expensive spray gun, but will be adequate for some applications. This paint system is designed for specific temperature ranges. It is most important that you purchase paint based on the temperature that you will be spraying at. The temperature effects which hardener and which reducer you should use with the paint, as the chart below demonstrates:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MIXING R/C FLYING COLORS PAINTS R/C Flying Colors paints are mixed using PPG Concept Urethane. This results in a very tough, high gloss finish, that matches Monokote gloss quality very well. We can custom match colors for you at no additional charge! Just mail us a 2" x 4" piece of the material, and we will do the rest. One special consideration is needed when purchasing paints. TEMPERATURE!! It is vital that you know what temperature you will be spraying in. The activator and reducer is designed to operate in a narrow temperature range. COLORS: 65-75 degrees F: Use DU-5 & DT-860. Mix ratio is 2 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 part activator.76-85 degrees F: Use DU-5 & DT-870. Mix ratio is 2 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 part activator. 86-95 degrees F: Use DU-6 & DT-885. Mix ratio is 2 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 part activator. CLEAR: 65-75 degrees F: Use DCX-61 & DT-860. Mix ratio is 4 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 parts activator.76-85 degrees F: Use DCX-61 & DT-870. Mix ratio is 4 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 part activator 86-95 degrees F: Use DCX-61 & DT-885. Mix ratio is 4 parts paint, 1 part reducer, 1 part activator. K-36 Prima: Use K-201 & DT-860/870/885. Use DT-860 for 65-75 degrees, DT-870 for 76-85, and DT-885 for 86-95 degrees F. Mix ratio is 5 parts primer, 1 part K-201 activator, 2 parts reducer (or as necessary to spray). It is VITAL that you use the proper activator and reducers in order for the product to work as designed! DO NOT SUBSTITUTE!!! You can use regular lacquer thinner to clean up with.
